Open Insights Interviews - Paul Vallee
I'm excited to bring you our very first audio interview or podcast. We talk with a very special guest, Paul Vallee, President and Founder of The Pythian Group in Ottawa Canada.
Paul talks about Open-source, what it has meant to running their business, and why Pythian Group has taken over the management of the Perl to Oracle communication layer, DBD::Oracle. He even offers some insight and opinion on Open-source databases, and what this will mean to Oracle's bottom line!

Fear Of A Jobless Planet
Despite fears of outsourcing for many years since the tech bubble crashed, it seems the economists are right again. The economy is clearly bouncing back for the tech sector.
Whenever I'm curious about the job market, I search craigslist and compare the figures in the Bay Area, and NYC for search keywords like Oracle, Open Source, Linux and Java.
Bay Area
Oracle:682
Open Source: 243
Linux: 898
Java: 1031
New York City
Oracle: 185
Open Source: 81
Linux: 257
Java: 373
Seems like a pretty healthy market to me!

Ellison Speaks of Open Source
At the recent Open World in Tokyo Japan, Larry Ellison spoke about Open Source software. It's no suprise that on the whole he spoke dismissively about Open Source as a threat to Oracle's bottom line. However the simple fact that Open Source is *BEING* mentioned in such important contexts such as keynote speeches, suggests another story. And that's not to mention all of the recent acquisitions as further testament that Open Source is having some impact.
